How to Become a Good Motorist

Lifestyle

The government is encouraging Singaporeans to practice good driving habits for their safety and the safety of the people around them. In fact, Singapore’s Traffic Police made an initiative that will encourage motorists to exercise good driving habits in the form of prizes.

The programme or initiative is called “Spot the Conscientious Motorists” which was launched in 2013. To date, there are 391 Singaporean motorists commended for their good driving habits. Last January 8, 2015, 7 drivers were praised for their good practices. They received petrol vouchers amounting to S$40 and plush toy.

If you are eyeing for the prizes and the commendations, here are some things that you need to keep in mind:

  • Signalling early: Motorists get commended for signalling early. Signalling early means a great deal to other motorists and even to bystanders.
  • Giving way to other road users: If you see people crossing, the least that you can do is to give way. If there are other road users like bikers, you should also let them pass peacefully and smoothly.
  • Following traffic lights: The most basic thing that you should do is follow traffic lights and signals. Traffic lights and signals are there for reason and it is not meant to be ignored.

So, the next time you get pulled over by a traffic police, do not get nervous especially if you think you did nothing wrong. If you let haste drive you, you will surely get a ticket not a commendation. Share this to others and they too will be commended. Good luck and happy driving!
